Chiropractic Care (Physical Medicine)

Chiropractic Medicine is the most widely known and utilized field of natural medicine. It is a branch of complementary and alternative medicine which focuses primarily on the nervous, muscular, and skeletal systems of the body. The word “Chiropractic” literally means “by hand,” therefore, one of the tools a Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine utilizes is a manual Chiropractic adjustment to a joint in the body. An adjustment is a gentle impulse of motion produced by the doctor into a joint that is restricted and has reduced range of motion. The objective of a Chiropractic adjustment is to induce optimal range of motion into a specific joint, because when a joint has full mobility it can move pain-free through its full plane of motion. Adjusted joints are less likely to cause pain, muscle spasm or nerve tension.

While Dr. Mark Riggs and Dr. Akilah Spencer prefer to use their hands to adjust joints, they may also employ more gentle approaches such as joint mobilization or Activator Technique in order to achieve a similar therapeutic benefit.
