Acupuncture and Dry Needling

Acupuncture and Dry Needling

Acupuncture is an eastern system of medicine that has been used by the Chinese for thousands of years. It utilizes extremely thin needles which are quickly inserted into the skin to stimulate specific point sources of energy. The traditional Chinese medicine philosophy states that dis-ease and dysfunction in the body are caused by a blockage or interference in one or more energy pathways called meridians. Therefore, by stimulating specific acupuncture points we can balance the body’s energy and blood flow, thus, restoring optimal function.

Acupuncture has an abundance of evidence-based literature supporting its effectiveness, especially at controlling pain. It is currently used all over the world to manage musculoskeletal pain such as low back pain, neck pain, headaches, shoulder pain, and arthritis. Acupuncture may also be beneficial for nerve-related conditions including peripheral neuropathy, Bell’s palsy, and sciatica. Other conditions acupuncture has been known to help manage include depression, anxiety, PTSD, fertility, and much more!

Upon evaluation, Dr. Akilah Spencer will discuss the appropriateness of treating with acupuncture as an additional tool used in your personalized therapy plan.
