Our Approach
Dr. Mark Riggs and Dr Akilah Spencer, of 5280 Functional Medicine in Englewood Colorado, share a philosophy of providing their patients with the highest quality of care. This is achieved by investigating and identifying the underlying cause of patients’ ailments and providing more natural, conservative, and holistic treatments. Their goal is to achieve and maintain a state of wellness for each of their patients. Treatments for neck pain, low back pain, and other musculoskeletal conditions may include adjustments, acupuncture, postural correction, rehabilitative exercises, instrument assisted soft tissue therapy, and Kinisio-taping. Additionally, referrals for imaging will be made when necessary, but they are not a pre-requisite for treatment.
Patients suffering from chronic internal conditions may require integrative blood chemistry analysis, urine hormone testing, stool analysis for digestive conditions, nutritional counseling, stress management counseling, lifestyle coaching, and tailored nutraceutical supplementation and botanical medicine prescription. In cases of a serious medical condition or medical emergency, patients will be referred to the appropriate healthcare provider.

Our Process
While Dr. Mark Riggs and Dr. Akilah Spencer's work with you may be quite comprehensive and detailed, the basic process is quite simple. They work hard to maintain a commitment to evidence-based medicine and advanced comprehensive diagnosis.
Step 1: Medical History
First, a thorough health history is gathered by discussing your past medical history and lifestyle habits. Download the new patient intake paperwork on the tab "For New Patients"
Step 2: Examination
Next, a problem-focused nutritional-based physical examination is performed in office.
Step 3: Report of Findings and Diagnosis
Based on your health history and physical exam findings the doctor will discuss their findings. For more complex cases, advanced diagnostic testing options will be discussed.
Step 4: Treatment Plan
Finally, your doctor will present you with an outline for a treatment plan to take steps to help you regain your health by addressing the underlying cause of your primary complaint. Appropriate diet and lifestyle modifications are addressed first and foremost.
